founder/CEO

Krissy is a Reno-Tahoe based multidisciplinary mountain athlete, nutritionist, and entrepreneur. Fitness was a part of her life from a young age, as her parents were both competitive triathletes who encouraged physical activity and participation in sport. She did her first 5k race (with her dad) at age 6, her first triathlon at age 8, and participated in team sports from ages 5-13. Krissy found lifting in high school and continued to run until 22—going on a decade long hiatus after developing an unhealthy relationship with it. She became a personal trainer at 18, expecting it only to be a college job, but soon developed a passion for helping others, and decided to pursue a career in wellness after graduating.

Krissy relocated to Southern California in 2012, where she was exposed to competitive strength sports, furthering her growth as a coach and athlete. Soon after in 2013, she overcame her decade-long battle with drug and alcohol addiction. Her newfound sobriety prompted Krissy to put herself in a new, even more challenging environment: New York City. Relocating to New York gave her the opportunity to work with all types of athletes. While living in Manhattan, Krissy wrote and published numerous books on her nutrition philosophies.

Krissy relocated back to Reno in October of 2015 to be closer to her family and the outdoor scene in the Sierras. Black Iron Nutrition was accidentally founded soon after when her client load became too much for her to take on alone. One thing led to another and the company crept up to 35 coaches with a passion to serve others through numerous programs.

In September of 2017, Krissy was diagnosed with the auto-immune disorder Celiac Disease. Soon after, she was then diagnosed with Gastroparesis. Experiencing extreme illness caused by food reshaped Krissy’s entire belief system towards health and wellness. Upon gaining her health back a year later, Krissy started living a more adventurous lifestyle, getting outside as often as possible and spending less time in the gym.

In June of 2019, Krissy was exposed to rock climbing and mountaineering on a trip to Switzerland. In December of 2020, she was exposed to backcountry skiing, which would lead to ski mountaineering in 2022 and beyond. In 2021, she started running again after 10 years off, eventually running across Grand Canyon and back (R3) in October of 2022. She is now juggling skiing, climbing, and running goals. Lifting is still an important part of her training.

Through Black Iron Nutrition Krissy hopes to provide people with all the necessary skills to succeed in living a healthy, active lifestyle and reach their wellness and performance goals. She strives to cultivate a community with an empowering environment where people can not only learn how to take care of their bodies, but improve themselves mentally and physically.

Krissy programs and coaches Black Iron Training Vert while also overseeing the BIN program as a whole.
