I absolutely love Black Iron and Lauren! I initially thought I was signing up for a few months to get macro numbers and accountability to lose weight and go on my merry way, but thank God it's been far more than that. A couple weeks after starting the program, I started listening to BIN Radio and gained an understanding that this really is about lifestyle and not quick fixes. That was what I wanted but had felt for years that I couldn't do it.
My thinking and understanding about nutrition and my body have been overhauled. This isn't about cutting out certain foods or working out more to lose weight, but instead about learning to change how I see myself, examine my thinking, and change my habits.
When I was younger, I was really active, ate what I wanted, and stopped when I was full. Then I got into my 30s and 40s and gained a little belly and became uncomfortable with my appearance. However, since working with Lauren, I've accepted that I'm a 40-something and my body responds differently than it did in my 20s. I've become more comfortable with my body. I've lost about 10 lbs so far, my clothes are fitting again, and I've relearned what satiety feels like. I thought I'd have to quit eating pizza, burgers, BBQ, ice cream, pastries, either temporarily or permanently but I was so wrong! I'm encouraged to eat delicious foods and have learned to moderate instead of gorge. I eat ice cream every night when I'm in maintenance. Lately I've been PRing wods, noticing more definition in my muscles, and having more consistent energy than ever. I love whitewater kayaking and other outdoor adventures, and I've learned how to keep myself fueled and hydrated appropriately when doing those activities. When I don't have a scale, I can still enjoy food, fuel appropriately, AND stop eating when I'm satisfied. I didn't think that was possible but this is how I live my life now.
I'm in my second cut now and have more wisdom and experience to know how to work pizza, a burger, or ice cream into a day even on a cut! Never in my wildest dreams did I think that was a thing. Now I also eat a lot of whole foods and incorporate more fruit and vegetables into my meals, which, if you'd asked my friends six months ago, they probably would've told you I'd never do. Truly, BIN has changed so much for me.
