We’ve spent decades in the trenches training, competing, and coaching across strength, endurance, and sport-specific worlds. No. Black Iron Training used to offer group subscription programming where everyone followed the same workouts at the same time. While that approach worked well, we’ve evolved. Now, each person’s training experience is personalized — we handpick the right program combination for your goals, background, and schedule, so you’re still getting structure and support without being locked into a one-size-fits-all plan.

No, this is mostly concurrent training. We don’t (intentionally) program for you to PR (personal record) your 1RM (1 rep max) and your running times in the same 12-week block, all thought it can happen, especially for beginners. Our approach is intentional: you’ll always have a primary focus, and we’ll use the other discipline to support it. Strength supports endurance, endurance supports strength, but they don’t compete.
We think more runners and skiers should be lifting and more lifters should be doing cardio, mostly for the sake of health and longevity. So this is what we try to achieve in our programming and training culture.
If you’re an experienced athlete who wants to be on both a lifting program designed to improve 1RM and a more involved or advanced running program, that is on you. But we have strength programs for runners where you’ll still lift heavy (4-6 rep range for main movements) without maxing out or working towards 1RM PRs.

Nope. We work with everyone from beginners to seasoned athletes. So if you’re just starting out or rebuilding after time off, we have clear, structured plans to meet you where you’re at.

You don’t have to guess, we’ll choose for you. When you sign up, you’ll fill out an intake form about your goals, background, and time availability. From there, we will handpick the best program combination so you’re set up with the right balance of structure, challenge, and sustainability.

You’ll get structured trainings plan that fit your goals and schedule. Our lifting programs run 2–5 days per week, and our running programs run 3–5 days per week. We’ll combine the two in a way that makes sense for your experience, preferences, goals, and time availability, so your training feels intentional, not overwhelming.
Our lifting and running programs are built to complement each other, so you can pair them seamlessly. Not into a structured running block? No problem, use the workouts from our in-app Toolkit to add your own conditioning or cardio of choice. And if you ever want more volume, you can pull extra sessions from the Toolkit, which includes hundreds of conditioning workouts you can plug in anytime.
With individualized programming, your coach writes everything from scratch, customizing your training around your goals, schedule, and priorities.

Each program runs for 12-14 weeks and is designed to build on the last as you get stronger and fitter, or as goals change. Once you wrap up a program, you’ll have a short check-in to update your goals and progress. From there, we’ll set you up with your next program so your training keeps building.

Absolutely. Life, goals, and seasons change. You can request a new pairing anytime through a form or your coach, or we’ll check in after each 12-week block to make sure you’re still in the right spot.

Community-Guided Training
You won’t be connected to a coach, but our team still monitors your progress and activity in the app. When it’s time to switch or update your program, you’ll fill out a short form so a team member can get you set up with no downtime. If you have questions along the way, you can post in our community forum to get support from the team and other members.Coach-Guided Training
You can message your coach anytime you need help — whether it’s moving or skipping sessions, adding extra work, or starting a new program. Your coach will also check in if they notice you haven’t logged in for a while to help you stay consistent.Individualized Programming + Coaching
This is our most hands-on option. You can reach out to your coach as often as you need, and they’ll connect with you regularly to review your sessions, provide feedback, and adjust your training as you go. -
The HypeHub is where our community connects — to swap ideas, celebrate wins, share tips, and stay accountable. Our team monitors conversations to make sure you get reliable info and solid guidance when you need it. It’s a space for encouragement, not ego.
Those doing community-guided will also be added to a Tech Support forum that is monitored by the Black Iron team should you need any assistance with the app, billing, etc.

Anytime. You can move from community-guided to coach-guided or individualized programming whenever you’re ready for more support. Your new coach will pick up right where you are and adjust your plan to keep you progressing.
