Jon was born and grew up in small town Nova Scotia, Canada, later moving to Edmonton, Alberta where he got his start as a personal trainer at the age of 18. It was here that he discovered his love for powerlifting and fitness in general. Later attending university while personal training and acting as the assistant, and later head, strength and conditioning coach for the cities pro football team.
Jon began online coaching in 2012 before the height of its popularity, first with a small coaching company, and later (in 2016) with his own distance training-coaching consultancy Great North. He has worked with a diverse population of clients including pro football players from both the CFL and NFL, Olympic athletes, MMA and wrestling, powerlifting, bodybuilding, bikini, and most importantly...those who simply want to become the best version of themselves.
In late 2016 he relocated back to Halifax, Nova Scotia to pursue his online business full time and live closer to his family. He now trains mainly for a combination of strength and aesthetics while pursing his love for cooking/baking, gardening, hiking, and writing. Jon is an active advocate for mental health awareness, and is open about his struggles with depression.
